INDIANAPOLIS – In response to system errors that prevented schools throughout the state from completing their ISTEP+ testing today, Glenda Ritz, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction issued the following statement:
 

Registration for the 2013-2014 School year is now open!

Current students:                     English           Spanish

Current students are students currently enrolled in any GCCS school as of today OR any pre-registered Kindergarten student. 

New students to the district:     English            Spanish

New students are students who are not attending a GCCS school as of today.
 

The Jeffersonville High School National Honor Society will be hosting a Kosair Children's Hospital Walk at the JHS track on April 13 from 6-9 pm. Open registration will be held from 5-6 pm and it's only $10 to participate. Proceeds will go to Kosair Children's Hospital.

The safety of students and staff is always our top priority.  In light of the recent tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, officials from Greater Clark County Schools and the City of Jeffersonville, along with local law enforcement and fire representatives, have met several times to review the district's existing crisis plan and determine ways to make improvements.  This video is provided to inform the community about what is being accomplished to keep our students safe.  Click here to view the video.

The ExCEL Award, cosponsored by WHAS-11 and LG&E KU, is designed to recognize, reward and renew the importance and contributions of the teaching profession in public schools to the development and well being of our young people and community. The Indiana Teacher of the Year Program is sponsored by the Indiana Department of Education and ING. This program recognizes outstanding classroom teachers from across the state. One person, in accordance with National Teacher of the Year guidelines, will be chosen to represent Indiana teachers at the national level.

Due to the inclement weather, the girls' basketball games (junior varsity and varsity) scheduled this evening between New Washington High School and Jeffersonville High School have been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
 

Emotions are fragile after the tragic event last week in Connecticut. Unfortunately, it is not unusual for rumors during these difficult times to circulate. We take all rumors seriously and the district will investigate them thoroughly. It's also important to understand the individuals creating or spreading these rumors are subject to school discipline and legal ramifications.

The Charlestown Pirate Basketball program has joined forces with the Clarksville General Basketball program and designated their Friday, December 7th contest to be a Coaches versus Cancer Game. The game will be held at Clarksville High School with a 6:00 pm JV tip and 7:30 pm Varsity tip.

The Greater Clark Board of School Trustees approved a balanced calendar for the 2013-2014 school year at their meeting Tuesday evening. School will start for students on Thursday, August 1, 2013 and the balanced calendar will allow for more frequent breaks during the school year and a slightly shorter summer break.

Reminder to parents: Jeffersonville High School will host their "College and Career Night" this evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Over sixty universities and career opportunities will be featured. 

"Sophomore and Junior Parent Night" will also be held this evening at 7:00 p.m. The sophomore meeting will take place in the media center and the junior meeting will be held in the auditorium.

In an effort to promote student safety, Greater Clark County Schools, the City of Jeffersonville, and Jeffersonville Police Department have partnered to advise community members to be cautious of students at the bus stop, also students riding bicycles or walking to school.

Greater Clark County Schools is excited to announce online registration for the upcoming school year!  You will receive a letter this week that includes instructions on how to navigate the Infosnap system as well as your child's "snapcode".  Greater Clark is encouraging parents to register their child online and will also offer registration at each school site.  Click here to access the dates/times for registration.
